Garden Wonderlands

          Azalea's at Dunedin Botanic Garden

Dunedin gardens are superb at any time of the year.

The climate here is 'temperate' which is the best for Rhododendrons and many other species.

Rhododendron Festival in late October is world renowned and Dunedin streets and gardens spill over with glorious colours.

Roses flourish in our climate and our Rose Garden at the Botanic Garden is breathtaking and fragrant.

Autumn is unique - the further South the better the colours as the leaves change.

Glenfalloch Gardens on Otago Peninsula is a place of wonderful tranquillity with an excellent cafe.

Many private gardens are open to the public usually by arrangement. Just tell us if you would like to do any of them.

Out of Town - North

Travel an hour north of Dunedin City and be stunned by an almost unbelievable sight of 4 million year old spherical boulders.

Known as the Moeraki Boulders, the soft mudstone containing the boulders was raised from the seabed around 15 million years ago and the sea exposes the erosion-resistant boulders which emerge from the cliff, as if being born from the earth. Their formation has taken as long as 4 million years and what you see is almost unique in the world. Huge and visible at all times but best seen at low tide, visitors can walk among them and be amazed.

Oamaru is our major Victorian Town awaiting World Heritage classification. The locals have preserved many old crafts such as bookbinding with the enthusiasts wearing Victorian clothing on a daily basis. The Oamaru Victorian Heritage Precinct is a journey into the past.

Victorian Precinct in Oamaru                                             Whisky Tasting

A new Whiskey Bar is well worth the visit where you can partake in a tasting session or just a coffe or tea.

We might stop at a small family owned motor body building business where exotic cars such as Ferraris or Maseratis are rebuilt.

Nearby are major limestone quarries supplying the building and agricultural industries.

All these activities make up a marvellous day of sight seeing.

Arthur's Tours can show you many more beautiful locations.
